- The department is one of the comprehensive cancer centres with high potential for the application of modern procedures in the treatment of cancer patients, consisting of two cooperating entities - the Hospital of the Pardubice Region and Multiscan s.r.o. It provides care for oncological patients of the entire Pardubice Region and part of the Central Bohemia Region (catchment area of approximately 700 thousand inhabitants).
- The Pardubice centre was one of the first to introduce a number of innovative treatment methods:
- It was the second in the Czech Republic to start routinely using the most modern technique of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT),
- was the first to introduce image fusion positron emission tomography for radiation treatment planning in cooperation with the Na Homolce Hospital in Prague,
- is the first in the Czech Republic to use fusion of magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography for the treatment of prostate and gynaecological tumours.
- The department is accredited with the highest level of accreditation for medical education in the field of radiation and clinical oncology.
- Physicians of KOC PK participate in teaching the subject of oncology within the Master's degree in general medicine at the 1st and 3rd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague.
- At the Faculty of Nursing of the University of Pardubice we provide teaching in two Bachelor's degree courses and four Master's degree courses in nursing.
- Two physicians are members of the specialty board of Military Radiobiology at the Faculty of Military Medicine of the University of Defence Hradec Králové, one physician is a member of the specialty board of Clinical Oncology and Radiotherapy at the Faculty of Medicine Hradec Králové.
- One physician is represented on the committee of the Society of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics.
- Accreditation for ISO 9001:2009 was obtained in 2009.
Facilities:
- The inpatient part of the centre is under the responsibility of the Pardubice Region Hospital (46 beds).
- Radiotherapy equipment. The department uses a modern CT simulator. A high-dose rate afterloading machine is available for radiation treatment by means of radiation application (brachytherapy).
- Outpatient clinics.
- In the Pardubice Region, KOC PK employees perform these activities within the Multiscan s.r.o. company at detached outpatient clinics of clinical oncology in hospitals in Chrudim, Ústí nad Orlicí and at the polyclinic in Svitavy. Radiotherapy is provided at the Pardubice Hospital. All workplaces are connected by a unified information system.
- The availability of specialised and innovative treatment for all cancer patients in the Pardubice Region is ensured through the unified management of oncology teams within the cooperation of all hospitals of the Pardubice Region with the KOC of the Pardubice Region.
